What to Include on a Jamaican Invoice

TRN Requirement

Every Jamaican business must display its Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) on invoices. If your customer is a registered business, include their TRN as well. This is required by Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) for all commercial transactions.

GCT Registration

Businesses with annual taxable supplies exceeding J$10,000,000 must register for GCT. Registered businesses must show GCT separately on every invoice, including the GCT registration number and the applicable rate.

Payment Terms Best Practices

Clearly state payment terms on every invoice. Common terms in Jamaica include "Net 30" (due in 30 days) or "Due on Receipt." Include your bank account details or accepted payment methods (bank transfer, cheque, mobile money).

Required Invoice Details

A complete Jamaican invoice should include: a unique invoice number, date of issue, your business name and address, customer details, itemized description of goods or services, quantities, unit prices, GCT breakdown, and the total amount due.

Record Keeping

TAJ requires businesses to retain copies of all invoices for at least 5 years. This applies to both issued and received invoices. Proper record keeping is essential for GCT input credit claims and potential audits. Consider using accounting software like YaadBooks to automate this process.
